11.  FB Grenades  (U)

Flash-bang grenades have a maximum range of 1500 world units. The duration of blindess relates closely to linear proportion with range.

If a player's direction of facing is within ninety degrees of a flashbang when it detonates, the player will experiences a period of complete blindness followed by a period of recovery, until normal vision is restored.

If a player's direction of facing is greater than ninety degrees away from a flashbang when it detonates, there is no period of complete blindness and the period of recovery lasts for seventy percent of the normal duration.

The y axis is time in seconds. The x axis is distance in world units. The top line is the recovery time for a player facing a flashbang. The middle line is the recovery time for a player facing away from a flashbang. The bottom line is the period of complete blindess.

When a flash-bang grenade detonates, the game draws a line between the center of the grenade and every player in range. If the line between the grenade and a player is uninterrupted, the player is affected by the grenade.

Flash-bang grenades are known to fail on occasion. This occurs when the grenade object manages to overlap another object in-game, which makes all line of sight tests fail, as the center of the grenade is effectively inside another object - all the line of sight tests instantly find an object between the grenade and other players.

Dud Flash-bang Grenade

In this footage, the grenade is overlapped by the feet of the player dropping the grenade. If the player dropping the grenade backs off even slightly, the viewing player is affected by the flash.
